Expanding our Vocabulary – Poverty Pornography
Charities often use exploitative images – now termed as poverty pornography – to raise awareness and money for causes. However, the idea of a Western “knight in shining armour” devalues the poor, reduces their agency, and presents a dependency on a forgone cup of coffee. There are ways to draw attention to issues that are not as exploitative.

Expanding our vocabulary – Group ETTO
One of the caveats of working in groups – group efficiency-thoroughness-trade-off. If everyone believes their work will be thoroughly checked by someone downstream, they are likely to prioritize efficiency. If everyone does this, however, and thoroughness is not prioritized – mistakes can slip through a group process.
